The Butterfly Effect

Viewed - Pay Per View

Review - Well I went into this film expecting something lame, becasue well Ashton Kutcher is in it, and I have come to not expect much from his stuff. But I did get some enjoyment from this film, there is some clever time travel stuff in here. How he comes about his time travel abilities... well I won't dig to deep, as I want to keep what little enjoyment I did get from this movie

Rating - Run of the mill thriller/time travel movie, see it only if something like Memento or Dead Again are rented out.

The Manchurian Canidate

Viewed - In the Theater

Review - Where the original dealt with the looming threat of communism, this one deals more with the looming threat of corruptable goverment, and how the corporations real run and influence the goverment. This is overall a great story of paranoia and x-file like dealings. I am also glad to see a hit from director Jonathan Demme, but you have to ask yourself... is he going to make an original movie... or is he just going to keep re-making other peoples movies. His last 2 movies were re-makes (The truth about Charlie being the other... BOMB!!!!) think he might try to get above the .500 mark in the re-make department. But onto the actors, I have to say all the performances were excellent, and I particularly enjoyed Liev Scrieber's performance as the smug Raymond Shaw.

Rating - You want to see a great and tense thriller, check this one out. Also I checked this out in a Matinee, I would have gladly paid full price for it.

Mean Girls

Viewed - On DVD

Review - Ok I may take soem heat for saying this... but I loved this movie. There were some great funny parts... and the eye candy did not hurt. I mean these are supposed to be high school girls, and let me tell you, no girls I went to high school with looked anything like these girls. Also an excellent first movie script from SNL writter and star Tina Fey, I hope she keeps up the good work, and puts out another script full of mean humor and sarcasm.

Rating - What can I say a real winner, check it out.

Fahrenheit 911

Review - I love Michael Moore movies bottom line. I love movies that make you think and look at things a bit diffrently then you normally would. This movie was made with one mission in mind, DO NOR RE-ELECT BUSH!!!!!. Well if I was American I think this movie would have made me go out and learn some things for myself about the people I was going to vote for. This movie does not have the slight humorous undertones, or the tounge in cheek wit that the Michael Moore's other movies have, but I think it done like that on purpose.

Rating - If you loved his other stuff check this one out, if you didn't well check it out anyways for some eye opening information on the American presdient.

Saved!

Saved!

Viewed - On DVD

Review - Once againg I watched this movie out of good word of mouth, and a trailer that made me laugh. It pretty much lived up to the hype, it was good but not awesome. This is a pretty good look at what to me would be an alternate lifestyle, life in a bible college. Also Jena Malone looks as cute as ever as the pregnant teen trying to hide it from family and friends.

Rating - I can't say not to bother with this one, but also don't rush out just to find it, see it if you can.

Review - Going into this movie I had heard lots of good things. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. This quirky little comedy was full of lots of surreal humor, and odd bits to make me laugh, as well as some superb acting on both Zach Braff and Natalie Portman's part.

Rating - I know quirky comedies are not everybody's cup of tea, but I can highly reccomend checking this one out.

Dawn of the Dead

Review - Wow... I have a soft spot for horror movies as it is, but when the horror movies are good (and quite often this is not the case) I rejoice. This movie was very well done, with good acting, excellent gore, and some really good scary tense moments. Also Sarah Polley is in the movie, I feel she just does not do enough mainstream movies, I would love to see more of her. Also make sure to watch all the credits, they are awesome.

Rating - I would have gladly paid full price for this at the theater, but just never got around to seeing it. Check it out.

Dawn of the Dead

Without A Paddle

Review - Sigh... a typical road trip gone awry movie. There were a few laughable moments, but all in all not that good. Burt Reynolds cameo apperance was good thou, somehow wild mountain man is a very suiting look for him.

Rating - I cannot really recommend this movie, just on the fact it is so run of the mill. I mean if medicore road trip movies are your thing. then by all means check this out, otherwise avoid it.

SEMI UP TO DATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so all post's previous to this one are from my old web page's movie review section, I just essentially cut and paste them off the page. So from now on I will include the Rotten Tomatoes review link (if availible) to the movie as well as how I viewed it, what I thought of it, and a rating. Also I say Semi up to date because there is a long friggin list of movies I have not reviewd... basically from the end of summer to present... it is so long the list... sigh... anyways I will try and get on that soon.

The Punisher

Movie - The Punisher
Viewed - DVD
Review - At first I was very hesitant to see this movie because of all the mediocre reviews it was receiving. But then I heard a few reviews that said it was unnecessarily violent, that just made me want to see it more. I must say it is definitely not the worst Comic Book movie I have ever seen, but is not the best either. Plenty of action to keep you interested.
Rating - Check this out only if: 1- your thinking of renting the Dolph Lundgren version... drop Dolph and get this one. 2- Get it if your in the mood fro some mindless action, and semi-weak story.

Going the Distance

Review - Ok let me set this up for you, small town boy has hot girlfriend who gets the chance of a life time job in Toronto as a production assistant. So she has to leave her small west coast fishing town and do it. Boy friend finds out that job is a scam, and proceeds to head to Toronto to ask her to marry him, road trip ensues. Did I mention this movie is produced by Much Music?
Rating - Sometimes you go see movies because the one you love wants you to see it with them... make sure you love them a lot. In case you can't tell by the tone, run far away from this movie... not funny... not funny at all.

The Village

Review - I have to start by saying this is not Shyamalan's best work. The problem with seeing his movies now is I try and sit and figure out what exactly is going on, and this time one of 3 possible endings I had come up with, ended up being the ending of the movie. But aside from this fact I liked everything else about this movie, the acting, the tension, and even how the final twist is presented. Also something I should mention is that from the preview's the movie is presented as almost a horror like slasher movie... it is the furthest thing from it.
Rating - I had almost given up on my theories for the ending, he spaced it out far enough so as not to be to obvious. So if you like a good thrill and a good twist, check it out.

Anchornan - The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Movie - Anchorman : The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Review - I think Will Ferrel is on of the funniest guys around, his dim witted act is perfect. This movie, thou to silly at times, still had plenty of laughs to keep it moving along. Also the time period is perfect (The 70's) to host this cast of wacky characters.
Rating - Even if you don't appreciate silly humor, the movie is worth checking out for Steve Carell's "Brick Tamland" character.

Napoleon Dynamite

Movie - Napoleon Dynamite

Review - Napoleon is the ultimate slacker, I have not laughed my ass off in a movie like I did in this in a long time. I think you have to be a bit of a Nerd to appreciate a lot of things that are funny in this movie, but I also think the pure absurdity of a lot of the movie will appeal to people.
Rating - Even if you go just for the one liners Napoleon has to deliver, check this one out.

Badder Santa

Movie - Badder Santa

Review - I loved this movie the first time I saw it, Billy Bob Thorton is such and asshole, I loved it. The directors cut of this movie adds a bit more, but nothing to significant, a few more naughty words from Billy, but that's about it
Rating - If you want to see the Anti-Holiday Movie... this is it, check it out it is hilarious.

Welcome to Mooseport

Movie - Welcome to Mooseport

Review - You have to wonder how such a bunch of good actors can pick such a stinker of a movie. There were a couple good laughs, but they were few and far between, not enough to keep the movie afloat.
Rating - I just can't recommend this one for any reason.

Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story

Movie - Dodge Ball : A True Underdog Story
Viewed - In the Theater
Review - I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It is a total check your brain at the door kind of movie... but really if your going to see it, do expect anything less? Both Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller are hilarious, and they are surrounded by an excellent supporting cast.
Rating - If your looking for a good laugh, check this... but remember to check your brain at the door.

Shattered Glass

Movie - Shattered glass

Review - A very good little indy film, that really gave Hayden Christensen a chance to show his acting chops. Thou the event was probably not as significant to Canada and it's politics, it was still good to see a well done story.
Rating - Check it out, what have you go to lose.

Gothika

Movie - Gothika
Viewed - On DVD
Review - This run of the mill thriller is just that... run of the mill. Thou artfully directed, there is little in this movie that comes as a shock. And you don't even get to see Halle Barry's boobs.
Rating - Hard to recommend such a cookie cutter movie, so get it if your in the mood for a thriller, but don't go out of your way.

Club Dread

Review - After seeing and thoroughly enjoying "Super Troopers" I had such high hope for the Broken Lizard crew. But this follow up effort was just not funny, I think I laughed genuinely maybe 3 times.
Rating - Avoid this movie at all costs... unless you need to see a shinning example of a shitty movie and rent Super Troopers instead.
