Review - Well I went into this film expecting something lame, becasue well Ashton Kutcher is in it, and I have come to not expect much from his stuff. But I did get some enjoyment from this film, there is some clever time travel stuff in here. How he comes about his time travel abilities... well I won't dig to deep, as I want to keep what little enjoyment I did get from this movie
Rating - Run of the mill thriller/time travel movie, see it only if something like Memento or Dead Again are rented out.

The Manchurian Canidate
Viewed - In the Theater
Review - Where the original dealt with the looming threat of communism, this one deals more with the looming threat of corruptable goverment, and how the corporations real run and influence the goverment. This is overall a great story of paranoia and x-file like dealings. I am also glad to see a hit from director Jonathan Demme, but you have to ask yourself... is he going to make an original movie... or is he just going to keep re-making other peoples movies. His last 2 movies were re-makes (The truth about Charlie being the other... BOMB!!!!) think he might try to get above the .500 mark in the re-make department. But onto the actors, I have to say all the performances were excellent, and I particularly enjoyed Liev Scrieber's performance as the smug Raymond Shaw.
Rating - You want to see a great and tense thriller, check this one out. Also I checked this out in a Matinee, I would have gladly paid full price for it.

Review - Ok I may take soem heat for saying this... but I loved this movie. There were some great funny parts... and the eye candy did not hurt. I mean these are supposed to be high school girls, and let me tell you, no girls I went to high school with looked anything like these girls. Also an excellent first movie script from SNL writter and star Tina Fey, I hope she keeps up the good work, and puts out another script full of mean humor and sarcasm.
Rating - What can I say a real winner, check it out.

Review - I love Michael Moore movies bottom line. I love movies that make you think and look at things a bit diffrently then you normally would. This movie was made with one mission in mind, DO NOR RE-ELECT BUSH!!!!!. Well if I was American I think this movie would have made me go out and learn some things for myself about the people I was going to vote for. This movie does not have the slight humorous undertones, or the tounge in cheek wit that the Michael Moore's other movies have, but I think it done like that on purpose.
Rating - If you loved his other stuff check this one out, if you didn't well check it out anyways for some eye opening information on the American presdient.

Viewed - On DVD
Review - Once againg I watched this movie out of good word of mouth, and a trailer that made me laugh. It pretty much lived up to the hype, it was good but not awesome. This is a pretty good look at what to me would be an alternate lifestyle, life in a bible college. Also Jena Malone looks as cute as ever as the pregnant teen trying to hide it from family and friends.
Rating - I can't say not to bother with this one, but also don't rush out just to find it, see it if you can.

This movie was very well done, with good acting, excellent gore, and some really good scary tense moments. Also Sarah Polley is in the movie, I feel she just does not do enough mainstream movies, I would love to see more of her. Also make sure to watch all the credits, they are awesome.

SEMI UP TO DATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok so all post's previous to this one are from my old web page's movie review section, I just essentially cut and paste them off the page. So from now on I will include the Rotten Tomatoes review link (if availible) to the movie as well as how I viewed it, what I thought of it, and a rating. Also I say Semi up to date because there is a long friggin list of movies I have not reviewd... basically from the end of summer to present... it is so long the list... sigh... anyways I will try and get on that soon.
The Punisher

Review - At first I was very hesitant to see this movie because of all the mediocre reviews it was receiving. But then I heard a few reviews that said it was unnecessarily violent, that just made me want to see it more. I must say it is definitely not the worst Comic Book movie I have ever seen, but is not the best either. Plenty of action to keep you interested.
Rating - Check this out only if: 1- your thinking of renting the Dolph Lundgren version... drop Dolph and get this one. 2- Get it if your in the mood fro some mindless action, and semi-weak story.

Review - I think Will Ferrel is on of the funniest guys around, his dim witted act is perfect. This movie, thou to silly at times, still had plenty of laughs to keep it moving along. Also the time period is perfect (The 70's) to host this cast of wacky characters.
Rating - Even if you don't appreciate silly humor, the movie is worth checking out for Steve Carell's "Brick Tamland" character.

Review - This run of the mill thriller is just that... run of the mill. Thou artfully directed, there is little in this movie that comes as a shock. And you don't even get to see Halle Barry's boobs.
Rating - Hard to recommend such a cookie cutter movie, so get it if your in the mood for a thriller, but don't go out of your way.

Review - Wow, very seldom does a sequel live up to the original, and this one does. I felt there was just not quite as much action as the first one, but there was some excellent character building and fore shadowing. Also what an improvement in CGI, they do some pretty cool stuff that is for sure, the fights are way amazing. I also think they gave Sam Raimi a lot more creative control this time, because there were some truly Raimi moments in this movie.
Rating - Who doesn't love Spider man? If you loved the first one, you will not be disappointed with this one.

Review - I love John Woo movies, the kick ass action, the sometimes cheesy moments of heroism, and this one started out like that. This movie had me completely engrossed in the first 10 minutes, but as the movie went on I can only say, without ruining the plot, they went to the well way to many times on a single premise, at first it was very cool, then it just got redundant.
Rating - Even Uma could not save this one in the end, and Ben Affleck as a kick ass engineer... sigh. See this only if something your really interested in is out.

Review - I must say I have so far thoroughly enjoyed all the Harry Potter films, and this one is no exception. You can definitely tell that it was helmed by a new director, with a darker grittier feel to it... even if I dare say artier feel to it. After finally getting around to seeing this movie, I held of mainly cause I had heard what a heavy drama it was, and was not in the mood most of the time to see it. But a stellar cast, even with the like of Laurence Fishburne and Laura Linney in almost support roles, and you can really see why Sean Penn and Tim Robbins were nominated for Academy Awards, and you can really see why Sean Penn won best actor overall. I am always a little worried when I see a Clint Eastwood film thou, because if you compare his last film (Blood Work) to this, Blood Work seemed like a made for TV movie... and it had the same writer and everything as Mystic River. So I was pleasantly surprised by Mystic River.
Rating - If your in the mood for a power house drama, check this one out.

Review - I had honestly begun to think that Writer/Director Roland Emmerich had lost his touch for presenting big event movies with his last 2 lack luster events (Godzilla and The Patriot). Well he is back doing what he does best, straight up Sci-Fi disaster movie. I admit I am a sucker for a disaster flick, but even so this one was very entertaining. With some very cool action scenes and for the most part really good special effects. I only get picky when some of the effects are spectacular, and some are just so so, if your going to do it big, do it through out the movie.
Rating - If you want another big action block buster, that's actually pretty good, check this one out.

Review - I love to support Canadian Cinema, but when they keep putting things like this out, it is hard to do. They have tried to create a Mockumentary about meter maids in Vancouver, it starts off quite funny, but then just loses it. It can't decide to be a movie or a documentary and does not keep it's focus in that sense.
Rating - I have trouble recommending this, maybe catch it on a cheap night or something if there is nothing else to see. Or wait for video.

Macy can, and he has probably his best turn since Fargo. Also I can see why Alec Baldwin received an Oscar nod his supporting performance, he plays quite the asshole. As ludicrous as a man who is so unlucky his bad luck spreads to the gambling tables he plays at (hence the cooler), the casino has him on pay role to cool down people who are on a winning streaks, it is still a fun and touching movie.
Rating - I have no problem recommending this to someone who likes good little movies.

Review - I didn't have the same feeling of aw I had the first time I seen the first Shrek, but this one was still pretty funny. Another great movie like the Pixar movies that creates a movie aimed towards kids, but still sprinkles in enough adult humor to keep it really interesting. But this is were some of the magic may have been lost, in that they crammed a lot into this movie, and it was a bit of sensory overload.
Rating - I can still highly recommend this one, though not as funny from beginning to end as the first one, it does have some funnier parts.

Review - The first official blockbuster summer movie I have seen this year, and well I am not disappointed. Clocking in at well over 2 hours it was big, it was epic, it was awesome. Wolfgang Petersen has another hit on his hands, can this guy make a bad movie? Lots of people will point to Outbreak as his bad movie, but I still loved it, so tough. Troy was well cast, Brad Pitt was quite good as was Eric Bana, and Brian Cox was kick ass as usual. But what was weird is Orlando Bloom's role was more of a supporting role, and I find this weird because of the kind of star he is becoming... weird. Also worth mentioning is the battle scenes, loved them, once again big and epic and almost worth the price of admission alone.
Rating - If you like them Big and Epic, there is no reason to not see it. Also movies that clock in at over 2 hours, There is usually a point where I would check the time, well I didn't once during this movie, so that should say even more in favor of it.

Now my review may be a bit biased because I love boat and underwater movies, but I mean it got 10 Academy award nominations, so they usually don't give those to movies that suck. The battles were great, showing life on a vessel back then was great also, and yeah I will give him some kudos, Russell Crowe was excellent also. Then probably the best thing this movie had going for it was, it is a Peter Weir movie, I will go see anything this guy puts out (time permitting of course).

With out giving to much away, they show the scene right before Bill has "The Bride" hit. It is Bill confronting her about her new life, and I loved it, the tension was unreal.
Rating - I you liked the first one, go see this one, and see how it all ends. If you have not seen the first one, go rent it and then read the rating again.

Even thou some people slammed it, I thought Blade 2 was excellent, the special effects were cool, the action was great, the acting... well all movies can't be perfect. Even in Hellboy thou, the combination of humor and action is almost perfect, thou running a little long (just over 2 hours), you feel it at the mid way point when the rollercoaster takes a little break and slows the ride down.
Rating - I'm going to go out on a limb here, if you like action movies at all.. .go see it.

Overall I had some enjoyment out of this movie, it was a little sappy and contrived but oh well he had to start somewhere.

His movies are so trippy, but cool, and some people have trouble wrapping there heads around his movies, because they are so out there (See Being John Malkovich and Adaptation). But back to Eternal sunshine, Jim Carrey is great in an unusually muted dramatic turn, and Kate Winslet mmmmm Kate, she is so hot, and way to cool in this movie. The premise of the movie is great also, you can have selected memories erased from your memory, which brings the sub plot of fate, and how you cannot fight it.
Rating - Go see this movie, in the theater or when it comes out for rental.

You can definitely see why Patricia Clarkson got a best supporting actress nomination for her role as April's estranged mother. Also this movie was totally shot on Digital Video, and man does it look good. The movie balances dram and humor very well, it kept me very interested. Also Katie Holmes is very good playing a bitchy punk girl with a heart of gold.
Rating - Definitely recommended if you like a good Dramedy.

So to my delight they made this movie, and I thought it was great, lots of in jokes for people who are familiar to the Tunes, I was in my glory. Also I think they sprinkled in enough adult humor to keep us interested. But the crowning moment of the movie comes when they stumble upon a desert science base (Area 51 maybe) and it is filled with all these old Sci-Fi robots and monsters, for me this scene was almost worth the price of admission alone.
Rating - Good family fun, with enough to keep the adults interested, try to see it.

I think it was a highly ambitious movie, and I am sure if given more of a budget, it could have been something really spectacular, but with what the director had to work with, I think he did a very good job. Sure some of the CGI is not top notch, but not all of it is bad, and it has a pretty good cast. There are some very cool action scenes (The bad guy trying to sink Venice) and the other action is right on par with the MTV generation we have all come to love.
Rating - Being pleasantly surprised by this movie, I would recommend it to Sci-Fi fans, others proceed with caution.

Lost in Translation
Movie - Lost in Translation
Viewed - Originally in the Theater, recently on DVD
Review - This is a great movie that has so many things going on, on so many layers that I do not even know where to start. I do not think any other actor besides Bill Murray could have pulled something like this off, he is absolutely perfect, and the always breathy muted performance of Scarlett Johansson suits her role.
Rating - I do recommend seeing this movie, and I would pay whatever price I had to, to see it. But I know for sure this is not everybody's cup of tea, so if you like multilayered drama's with lots to think about, please check it out. If not try and sit through it anyways.

Spell Bound

Review - This is a documentary about 8 Junior High students who are local spelling bee champions who go onto the National spelling bee. I see everybody skipping ahead to the next review now... well don't. This movie was excellent, and entertaining. It is a total treat to see the background on each student and there families and just how into this competition they are. Also the national spelling bee at the end is presented in such a way that the tension is almost unbearable at points.
Rating - Thou viewed on DVD, I would not have been unhappy paying full price in the theater to see it.

Review - I really only have one thing to say about this movie and that is, that the movie itself was ok, but the acting job of Charlize Theron is spectacular. Christina Ricci does an excellent job also, but it's kind of expected from her now in these indy flicks. The movie also really had a feeling of just skimming the surface, there is really only 5 minutes of court scene at the end of this movie, so if that's what your looking for... well you will have to look elsewhere.
Rating - I was not unhappy paying a matinee price, and probably could have lived paying full price and not felt ripped off.

Along Came Polly

Review - OK first of there is not to much that Ben Stiller does that I don't laugh at (I am still undecided about Zoolander), so once again Ben has come through. Though not as funny as Meet the Parents (same writer) but still has enough laughs to keep me happy. Also Jennifer Aniston is pretty funny playing a space cadet (thou not to far from her famous Rachael character). Overall this movie was a great way to spend an afternoon.
Rating - Don't pay full price, but a matinee or a rental is perfect.

Review - I had read good things about this movie, but unfortunately they seemed to be lies. The movie turned out to be pretty much a run of the mill thriller with its obligatory twist at the end. Glad I rented it and did not go to the theater for it.
Rating - Rent it if there is nothing else in.

Cabin Fever

Review - I had heard lots of hype for this movie, as recreating the genre and stuff like that. I will say it was pretty good, some good laughs in it, some top notch gore (and some not so top notch). Had I seen it in the theatre I would probably been disappointed paying full price, but a matinee would have been perfect.
Rating - Give it a try on DVD if your a horror fan.
