Grog's Short and Sweet Movie Review Blog

A Place where Grog can come and tell everybody what he thinks about the movies he has just watched. The Criteria for reviewing movies will be as follows: Name of Film, Where or how it was viewed, Review, And rating of some sort. Also don't look for long breathy reviews of movies... these are straight forward opinions of mine of the movie, usually not sugar coated. Also look for the movies link to the Rotten Tomatoes site, some have it, but not all.

Beowulf

Well let me start off by saying, this movie is not for kids. I had expected a little more family fair I think and that is definitely not this movie, it is gory and scary for sure. Also I am not fully familiar with the whole story but I like how this one unfolded. Also it was visually stunning and has left me wishing I would have seen it in 3D Imax. Check it out for sure... just don't let the young kids watch it.

Next

So I checked this movie out finally, as it had kind of slipped under my radar when it first came out and has since seemingly slipped into obscurity. Well I have to say it was ok, the whole premise is that Nic Cage can see into the future but only like 2 mins or so... but sometimes further. The action was decent, seeing the future always makes things interesting, and the story is alright as well. I think I would recommend thou seeing Paycheck over this one, and I would definitely recommend seeing Minority Report over this one. Check it out if the previous 2 titles I mentioned are not available.

Horton Hears a Who

I rather enjoyed this film. I love animated movies that take as much time to entertain adults as they do the children, definitely see this one any way you can.

The Eye

Another remake of a Japanese horror movie (I really got to get around to seeing the originals). There were some good scares, and some creepy imagery. But I am definitely seeing a trend in Japanese horror movies, there always seems to be a kid who has been killed horribly in some way, and they are out for revenge. I guess ghost kids are pretty creepy, but they get old after a while. This movie is run of the mill and nothing unexpected, make it a rental.

One Missed Call review

Well according to the Rotten tomato review the movies is batting at a 0%. Well I didn't think it was that bad, but I have never seen the origianl one. It is far from awesome, but i you got nothing better to do and are in the mood for a remake of a Japanese horror movie, this is for you. All in all catch it on tv or a DVD rental.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story

So I watched this the other day and I must say I was kinda disappointed. A lot of the jokes were just to over the top, and I found the laughs few and fart between. Also the fact that Dewey refers to all these famous people by there full name and where they are from (eg. "Well hello John Lennon of the Beatles") really annoyed me... not sure why, it just did. So if you've been waiting to see this one as I was (it comes from the Judd Apoatow camp) maybe hold off a bit and wait for it come on a PPV channel or something. On another note Rotten Tomatoes has the movie being rated as fresh with a 74% rating... just goes to prove that some movies just aren't your thing sometimes, maybe I will try and watch it again in a few months.
